The Unchangeable

When ham & eggs were 30 cents
Living was cool & seldom tense,
A little dime bought a loaf of bread
A dollar a day kept a couple well fed,
Heat was either coal or wood
Wives were housekeepers kind & good,
Gas was light in cottage & flat
All men wore some kind of hat.

Ink came in small bottles
We dipped in the pen
Nothing over a dime in the 5&10
A fifty mile ride in a Model T Ford
Two flats on the trip was not absurd,
Boys were boys, men were men,
But there's one thing that hasn't
Changed betwixt now & then,

An egg is an egg & always
Comes from the hen.
